Donde estamos exactamente????

At times it seems that we are in many places at once in PR.  Though Spanish is the official language, other times it feels that we have not left the US at all.  These pictures help to give a feeling of the many similarities between the US and PR.  Though some may feel the disparities between the US and PR are very great, I feel the opposite.  Using the same currency and the fact that so many business owners speak English are only 2 reasons that I feel that PR is much more like the US than Central America.

  1. Exactly what I'm going to write about in my paper! It almost seems as though we are in the US, like Miami. It doesn't really feel like we are very far from home most of the time. But perhaps that is because it would be very easy to just get a plane ticket and go home any time. One doesn't have to worry about passports or visas. And for the Puerto Ricans I can see how it would be easy to leave Puerto Rico to go to New York and work for a while. They know enough English from growing up here, and the Puerto Rican communities in the US wouldn't seem that different from home. (Of course the cold winters would be a shock!)

  2. This is a great observation of PR. It is interesting to see so many similarities, but then again, should we have been so surprised? Just as a side note, the purses in Coach are still just as expensive! :)
